Light and compact

If you travel and camp on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Forest Service Land, then you are required to bring a trowel for latrine cat holes. This trowel fills the requirement, but is very lightweight and compact. It digs quite well and the folded back edge lets you push it firmly into the soil without hurting your hand. I like that it comes with a lanyard holes and a small carabiner clip for hanging it. It also comes with a drawstring travel pouch. If you want to go backpacking and need an ultra-lightweight trowel, then I think this one will serve well. Five stars.

So light you barely notice

I’m a freelance photographer and often hike to remote locations for shots. This trowel is the only tool I bring for making small fire pits when the evenings get chilly. The weight is barely noticeable, yet the blade feels solid enough to carve out a decent hole for a stove. The serrated edge saved me when I hit a patch of compacted clay near a desert canyon. My drawstring case keeps the dirt from getting on my camera gear, which I appreciate. After a long day, it folds flat and slides into my side pouch without rattling. Honestly, I wish I’d discovered it a few trips earlier.

Perfect little trowel

I’m a middle‑school science teacher and take my students on weekend field trips. We needed a reliable way to dig small observation pits for a soil study, and this trowel was perfect. It’s tiny enough for my kids to handle, yet strong enough to get through compacted ground. The serrated edge let us cut through a few stubborn roots without breaking a sweat. I love that it comes with a carabiner - I clipped it to the belt loop of my field jacket and never had to search for it. The drawstring pouch keeps the dirt from getting on my lesson plans. After a full day of digging, the trowel still looked brand new, no scratches or bends. It’s definitely earned a permanent spot in our classroom’s outdoor gear drawer.

This trowel saved me

I keep one in my emergency kit at home and it’s saved me a couple of times. When the power went out, I used it to clear a small fire pit in the backyard. It’s surprisingly sturdy for its size.

Works great

I tossed this little titanium trowel in my daypack for a weekend in the White Mountains. When a storm forced us to camp in a shallow spot, I dug a cathole in seconds and felt good about leaving no trace. The serrated edge actually cut through the frozen root mat without a hitch. Packing it back into its drawstring pouch took less than a minute, and it added almost nothing to my load.

Indispensable

I took this on a two‑week thru‑hike on the Pacific Crest and it proved indispensable. The first night we camped near a wet meadow, and I dug a proper cathole without any back pain thanks to the leverage the length gives. The drawstring case kept it clean when I stashed it in my rain jacket pocket. When we hit a rocky section, the serrated edge sliced through a thin layer of packed soil like butter. I also used it to loosen a stuck campsite stove leg - something I never expected to need a shovel for. The carabiner clipped onto my pack strap, so I never had to dig around for it. After the trek, the trowel looked like new, no rust or dents. It’s only 37 grams, so it didn’t add any noticeable weight to my already light setup. I’m already planning to bring it on my next summer trip.

Nice trowel

Used it on a worksite for quick soil sampling and it survived the rocky ground like a champ. The carabiner clipped right onto my belt loop, so I never misplaced it.

Reliable digging tool

I work as a park ranger and need a reliable digging tool for trail maintenance. This titanium trowel fits in my utility belt and I’ve used it to clear small root obstacles on several hikes. The serrated side makes it easy to slice through stubborn bark. I also appreciate the included carabiner for quick access. It’s held up through rain, mud, and a few accidental drops.

Breezy digging

Traveling through Europe by train, I joined a group of hikers for a night in the Alps. The guide asked each of us to dig a cathole, and my trowel made it a breeze. The titanium feels solid, but the whole thing is feather‑light. The serrated edge helped when the soil turned into a crusty layer after a snow melt. I clipped it to my daypack with the carabiner, and it never rattled around. Even after a week of use, the drawstring case stayed clean.

Does the job

Works ok and does the job, but right where you hold it there are sharp edges, so you need to be careful. Also the price is quite steep for a piece of aluminum.

Easier to dig with

Got this to replace my ultra light Ace of Spade wanted something that was not as flimsy and was told this one had a more comfortable handle. This one is easier to dig a hole with, but I don't find the handle to be any more comfortable than any other.

Added to my kit

Weighs only 1.3 oz without the carabiner or baggie. Very light and it seems sturdy. I did a little test digging in my yard which isn't particularly soft soil and it handle grass and clay well. I think the serrations will handle small roots (<3/16 probably) pretty well. I plan on actually adding this to my kit so I won't be torture testing it to see just how much it can handle. The handle isn't very comfortable
